Florida Land Clearing Permit Resources
It is your land, but it is your responsibility to know the code. We are operators, not attorneys. Use these direct links to check your county's requirements before we arrive.
Collier County
A "Vegetation Removal Permit" (VRP) is required for most clearing. If you are only removing invasive exotics (Brazilian Pepper), you may qualify for an exemption, but you must file the affidavit first.
Growth Management / Environmental Planning
Pinellas County
Strict protection. You need a "Habitat Permit" for almost any tree removal over 4 inches in diameter. New 2026 enforcement uses satellite imagery to track canopy loss.
Environmental Management
Orange County
If your lot is vacant, you generally cannot clear it without a building permit or a specific "Nuisance Abatement" approval.
Zoning / Environmental Protection Division (EPD)
Charlotte County
They have a specific "Mulching Permit." You cannot just "bush hog" a vacant lot for future sale without this paper.
Community Development
Sarasota County
Distributing the root zone (tilling/grubbing) requires an Earthmoving Permit. Removing Grand Oaks is a major offense.
Environmental Permitting
Martin County
If you are in a "Preserve Area," you need a PAMP (Preserve Area Management Plan). Do not clear Palmettos here without checking the map.
Growth Management
Volusia County
Stand-alone tree removal permits are required for trees >6" DBH. Vacant lots are highly regulated to prevent "speculative clearing."
Environmental Management
Lee County
Indigenous vegetation is protected. Invasive removal is allowed but must be done without "site grading."
Environmental Sciences
St. Johns County
Land Clearing permits are standard for any lot prep.
